Epic Battle for a Sea Lion Placenta (video blog)

My college on the Galápagos is a single peach-colored building across the street from Playa Mann, a white-sand beach covered with sea lions. One day during a class break, I was strolling on the beach taking photos when a shadow blotted out the sun: a flock of magnificent frigatebirds was descending on me! I began filming and realized the birds were actually dive bombing a fresh sea-lion placenta.

The “Study” in Study Abroad

It’s final paper writing time here in Nantes, which means we’re collectively discovering that there’s more research to be done in France than that of Muscadet at a vineyard or camembert at a Saturday market. This week, we’re putting the study in “study abroad.”

I’ve dedicated most of my posts to the abroad part of my experience in France, whether that is visiting castles or practicing my French with strangers, but I promise I have an academic life here as well, even if it does look incredibly different from the one I lead in the U.S.

Paris Holds the Key to Your Heart

It’s the beginning of the end, as our last days in Paris are starting to fly by. And as it gets closer to Christmas time, Paris gets more and more magical which is going to make it even harder to leave this place. Sometimes I am jealous when I see pictures of people flying all over Europe to really cool destinations, but then I remember that Paris is the most amazing city in the world (I’m not biased, I swear) and I realize that there is no place I would rather be right now.
