“When Will We Invent Teleportation?” Dealing with Pre-Travel Anxiety

It’s when you know you’re excited about your upcoming trip, but for some reason you’re still dragging your heels and wanting to be left alone while you pack. When someone says “getting there is half of the journey” with the best of intentions, but the thought of thirty total hours of travel there and back still makes you want to punch a pillow and scream at the top of your lungs.

Royal National Park Trip

On Saturday I went on IES Abroad’s last day trip to the Royal National Park. The park proclaimed in 1879 is the world’s second oldest national park, after Yellowstone in the US. It was named the Royal National Park after Queen Elizabeth II passed through the park on her way to Wallongong in 1954. Traveling within Australia, many things are named after the queen, haha.. the Queen Victoria Building, Elizabeth Street, etc.

Vivid

What an electricity bill! It’s vivid! Vivid is Sydney’s festival of lights, celebrating the cities beautiful art and architecture, music, and ideas. Many parts of the city are featured including, of course, the Opera House and Darling Harbour Bridge. Last year, an estimated 500,000 people came to watch the light show and it’s quite an ordeal. For over 2 weeks, the 23rd of May to the 9th of June, lights are on from 6 until midnight.

With six total hours of Trinity exams behind me and months until I know how they really went, it seems like an appropriate time to think about the differences I’ve noticed between my classes at TCD and Wash U. I’ve already ranted about the challenges and frustrations of navigating Trinity bureaucracy (registering online for the upcoming fall semester was a blessed relief) and described the terrors of exam halls, but what about the actual day-to-day classes?

A Week of Hard Goodbyes

My final week in Granada has been a bittersweet experience… Amidst a mad scramble to study for exams and pack my bags, I also had to come to terms with leaving the city and the friends I’d come to love over the past four months. Despite not having much time, I still managed to take a few walks around the city and see my favorite parts one last time.
