The Forum on Education Abroad Honors Dr. Michael Steinberg with the Peter A. Wollitzer Award

We are pleased to announce that, at the Forum on Education Abroad Conference in New Orleans last week, our very own Dr. Michael Steinberg (Executive Vice President for Academic Programs for IES Abroad), received the Forum on Education Abroad’s prestigious Peter A. Wollitzer Advocacy Award for his unrelenting commitment and numerous contributions to the field of study abroad.

The Peter A. Wollitzer Advocacy Award was established to honor a Forum member who effectively influences institutions of higher education to support education abroad through the spreading of the Forum’s stated goals of standards of good practice, data collection and research, curricular development and academic design, and assessment.

In his 38 years at IES Abroad, Michael has been an active figure in the development of international education. His record of achievements is unmatched in the field and highlights include the following:

  • The establishment of new IES Abroad Centers and programs in more than 35 cities worldwide and the development of more than 125 high-quality programs

  • Development of the original IES Abroad MAP for Study Abroad Programs and the IES Abroad MAP for Language & Intercultural Communication, both benchmarks of performance and excellence in the field of study abroad

  • Chair of the Standards Committee of the Forum on Education Abroad

  • Service on the Advisory Council of the Forum on Education Abroad

  • Contributor to the NAFSA Guide to Education Abroad

  • Awarded Education Abroad Leadership Award in 2012 from NAFSA: Association of International Educators

  • Frequent panelist and speaker at study abroad conferences worldwide

  • Author of many groundbreaking professional articles and studies

  • And more.
