Academic Travel: Singapore (2)

This second part of this journal includes what we did outside of the actual lectures and IES Abroad accompanied site visits. I know for a fact that we had a great time exploring the city. Without a doubt, we never felt unsafe anywhere. Even the taxis are known to be the most genuine people ever – they’ll give you tips and won’t cheat you off on a route somewhere. Anyway, we went to a number of places on our own time including the Night Safari, Chinatown, and Sentosa Island!

One of our nights off, we took off to the Night Safari, a nocturnal zoo. If you’re ever in Singapore, this is a definite must! Best $40 I’ve ever spent on a zoo, I swear.

This is the view from the top of the marina barrage. You can see the Singapore Flyer and you see that boat above the two buildings, that’s the casino! We couldn’t go up because it’s 21+…

At Sentosa Resort Island, we went to the underwater world and saw a plethora of interesting species.

Here’s my friend, Brittany and I in front of a window of jellyfish! Loving the colors.

In addition to the aquarium exhibits, there was also a dolphin show. While one of our friends was chosen to pet the dolphin, she got splashed! Are we jealous?? Hmmmm

See! We had a lot of fun too! This picture portrays us applauding Yang, the dolphin! I’m on the far left. Next to me is Sharon, a mother we meet at Underwater World, and then there’s Brittany and Sarah on the far right. We absolutely had so much fun hanging out with the dolphins!

Have you ever had the opportunity to say you’ve ridden a dolphin? Well, we do! Yang, the pink dolphin, pulled us around and it such a rush! :)

On our way off the island, here was the view after a long day at the Underwater World and beach. What a rough life!

You’d think once we got to the Singapore airport, we’d just have to sit around for our flight back to Shanghai. But no! Singapore’s Changi Airport has a Butterfly Garden! A little open-air enclosure filled with beautiful butterflies!! Oh how I miss Singapore!
