Yes, I know, this is the blog we’ve all been waiting for. The one where we talk about everyone’s favorite Italian pastime: eating gelato.

Now, let’s get one thing straight. This isn’t an exhaustive list. There are endless creamy, dreamy gelaterie scattered across Milano, and honestly, half the fun is stumbling into one on a random corner. But these five? These are the ones that stood out, the ones that made me pause mid-bite and think, wow, this might be the best thing I’ve ever tasted.

5. Amorino

If you’ve been to Amorino in the U.S., you’ll instantly recognize the signature flower-shaped scoops. It’s a little pricier (around €3.50–€8.50), but that’s part of the charm. The gelato’s rich, the shop smells like heaven, and you can even add a macaron on top, because why not?

I went for lemon, coconut, and vanilla, my comfort trio. I wasn’t always a lemon gelato person, but my friend Hanna convinced me to give it another shot, and now I’m obsessed. It’s the perfect way to balance out the sweetness of the other flavors.

Verdict: Reliable classic with a luxury twist. Great for when you want something familiar but elevated, bonus points for the macaron topper.

4. Grom

Grom has locations all over Italy, but the one in Milan hits differently. Their dark chocolate almond-dipped cone alone deserves an applause. The chocolate’s rich but not bitter, that perfect balance that keeps you going back for another bite.

When my friend and I stopped by, the staff were so sweet they even complimented my Italian (which automatically earned my loyalty). I tried pistachio and stracciatella, classic combo, executed perfectly. Safe to say, I’ll be returning.

Verdict: A crowd favorite done right. Consistent quality, kind staff, and that dark chocolate almond cone? A must.

3. 101CAFFÈ Fast Gourmet

This one’s a bit of a wildcard and a personal favorite of one of my friends, and now, of mine too. The flavors are bold, creamy, and full of that homemade feel you can’t fake.

For context, my friend’s gelato cone literally collapsed mid-bite (tragic), and she still wanted to go back the next day. That should tell you everything.

Verdict: Unexpected gem with bold flavor. Messy in the best way, the kind of place you’ll laugh about and return to anyway.

2. Ciacco

Ciacco is a quick walk from the Duomo, and it’s one of those places that just feels like Milan. The gelato is smooth, velvety, and full of flavor without being too heavy.

Yes, the line can get long, especially on sunny weekends, but trust me, it moves quickly. The energy of the crowd, the smell of espresso in the air, and that first bite of perfectly creamy gelato make the wait worth it.

Verdict: Smooth, refined, and worth the wait. A go-to for anyone craving authentic, velvety Italian gelato near the heart of the city.

1. Umberto 1934

Ah, Umberto. The one that stole my heart. This place is legendary for its soft, creamy texture and their heavenly affogato. I went twice in two weeks, and if you know me, that says a lot.

I got a piccolo cup with half Crema di Umberto and half Cioccolato, and let me just say, I’m not a chocolate person, but this changed everything. It’s rich, smooth, and downright life-changing.

Between the cozy booths, the kind staff, and the little Vespa parked out front, this place just feels special. Even the way they smooth the gelato edges before handing it over makes my day. If you’re planning a visit, take me with you, per favore e grazie.

Verdict: Perfection in a mug. Rich, creamy, and unforgettable, the kind of gelato that redefines your dessert standards.

Final Scoop

Milan might be known for its fashion, but trust me, the gelato scene is just as impressive. Whether you’re craving something familiar or ready to try something completely new, these five spots are the perfect place to start.

Happy eating, and please send me your recommendations. I’m always down for another scoop.
