We firmly believe that financial limitations should not prevent a qualified student from participating in an IES Abroad program. That's why we commit more than $4 million in study abroad scholarships and financial aid.
How to Apply
Our universal aid application allows you to apply online for all of our financial aid opportunities at once.
Use the application to tell us a bit about yourself and upload the documents described below so we can determine every aid possibility you are eligible for. After applying, you will hear from us within five business days confirming your award amount. Funds are limited, so apply early!

The IES Abroad Scholarship was a major factor in my decision to study abroad; without it, I wouldn’t have been able to. In a sense, I see my scholarship as a step to a doorway, and the other side of that is the world that is full of possibilities.
Need-based financial aid is available to IES Abroad students studying at U.S. colleges/universities within in the IES Abroad Consortium. In addition, your home school must have a policy of transferring at least 75% of institutional aid for study abroad.
Use the Aid Application to apply for need-based financial aid. We will let you know your award amount within 5 business days, even if you haven’t been admitted to a program. This allows you to know what need-based aid you would receive from us as you make your decision to study with IES Abroad.
Priority is given to Pell Grant recipients. If you are receiving need-based aid now as part of an overall financial aid package at your home school, there is a chance that you could receive need-based aid from IES Abroad.
Semester/Year/J-Term (up to $5,000 for semester, $500 for J-Term)
Applicants must attend a private school that is a member or associate member of the IES Abroad Consortium and transfers at least 75% of institutional aid for study abroad.
The following need-based scholarships are also available to eligible semester-length programs:

Customized programs and full-time semester internship students are not eligible for IES Abroad aid.
Public University Grant
Our Public University Grant is an automatic $2,000 credit toward all IES Abroad semester and academic year/calendar year programs.* This credit is noted in your IES Abroad invoice.
Attend a public college or university that is a Member or Associate member of the IES Abroad consortium.
You must be accepted to and attend an IES Abroad program authorized by your home school in order to receive one of these scholarships.
Standard programs only. Customized programs are not eligible for IES Abroad financial aid.
No additional application necessary.
How to Apply
No aid application necessary as this grant is automatic for all eligible students.
The only applicable deadline is the deadline for your IES Abroad program.
*Summer programs, customized programs and full-time semester internship programs are not eligible for the Public University Grant. Academic Year and Calendar Year programs will have the Public University Grant applied to the first term only.
Donor-Funded Scholarships & Grants
The following scholarship opportunities have been created through the generosity of various donors who support the important mission of IES Abroad:
We are committed to fostering and supporting a diverse student body. Our Diversity Scholarships encourage and support students from a range of institutions and under-represented populations.
Under-represented students include students from under-represented racial and ethnic groups, first generation to college students, students from low income families and students with a history of overcoming adversity.
The IES Abroad Boren and Gilman Scholarship Support Grants offer recipients of these prestigious scholarships the opportunity to apply for additional financial support. 20 grants of $1,000 each will be offered every fall and spring semester, and 20 grants of $500 each will be offered for summer programs, with no application required. We will contact you after each organization makes their award announcement.
Must be a current recipient of a Boren or Gilman Scholarship (for the same semester or year of study abroad experience)

To be eligible for any IES Abroad aid, you must apply to and attend an IES Abroad Program.
Please note that many academic accommodations, such as additional time for examinations, quiet location for examinations, etc. may be available to you without cost. Speak to your IES Abroad advisor to learn more. These types of accommodations provided by IES Abroad are not eligible for Disability Grant consideration.
Extend your IES Abroad Experience! Students enrolled in an IES Abroad semester-long program who wish to extend their time studying abroad must first receive permission from their home institution to do so.
Regardless of whether they want to continue on their current program or experience another location, IES Abroad will discount the tuition of their second semester program according to the following criteria:
Academic year program tuition prices reflect at least a 20% discount off second consecutive semester program tuition for the same program.
Students will receive a 20% discount applied as a credit to the second consecutive semester’s tuition in a different program comprising an academic year.
Students must enroll by November 1st to get the discount for academic year study. After November 1st, the second term’s tuition pricing will be based on the following spring term’s tuition.
Students will receive a 20% discount applied as a credit to the second consecutive semester’s tuition in the same or a different program comprising a calendar year.
Students must enroll by May 1st to get the discount for calendar year study. After May 1st, the second term’s tuition pricing will be based on the following fall term’s tuition.
Students will receive a $500 credit toward summer tuition if a summer program is attended prior to or after a semester or academic year program.
Students will receive a $300 credit toward January term tuition if a January term program is attended prior to or after a semester program.
The calendar year, summer, and January term discounts will be applied to the IES Abroad invoice as billed to the student or school. Students should see their current Center Director for a “Change of Status” form to continue studying at their current location or to attend a different IES Abroad program. Finally, please note that the above discounts are applied to the designated term or second semester of tuition only.
