GR/CM 325 - German Conversation: Current Topics

This course provides students with intensive practice in spoken German, helping them expand their use of precise and varied vocabulary and express their opinions with confidence. Each class session centers on a current topic directly related to contemporary Germany. Students will work with a textbook designed specifically for learners of German, complemented by up-to-date media material that deepen their understanding of present-day Germany. Through structured discussions and guided reflection, students will strengthen their speaking skills and learn to articulate and defend their viewpoints both in small groups and in conversations with the professor. Written reflective assignments will prepare students for in-class discussions and support the development of their ideas. By closely following current developments in Germany, the course also aims to support students’ integration into life in Berlin. Along the way, we will explore key aspects of German politics, society, business, and culture, enabling students to build a well-rounded understanding of “Germany Today” and its current media debates.
