Update about the Earthquake in Chile - Argentina and Ecuador Programs

As you have probably seen on the news, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile this morning. The epicenter of the earthquake was Concepcion, Chile (approximately 200 miles away from Santiago).

Upon news of the earthquake, IES Abroad's Crisis Management Team was activated.

Buenos Aires, Argentina
While the earthquake was a considerable distance from Buenos Aires, there are reports that the earthquake could be felt in parts of Argentina, especially near the Chilean border.

We have heard from our program staff in Buenos Aires that all is fine and in good order in Buenos Aires. Our program will begin on February 28 as planned.

Quito, Ecuador
IES Abroad staff in Quito have reported that our students there are safe an accounted for. We have advised students to stay away from coastal areas as there is a tsunami threat on the Pacific coast.

We will continue to monitor this matter and will continue to provide updates in the event of further developments. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Matthew Rader, Dean of Students at 800.995.2300.
