As part of our Ambassador Program, we award the IES Abroad Ambassador of the Month title to two Ambassadors who show exceptional dedication to international education outreach by taking part in a variety of outreach activities on campus and online.

Our May 2015 Ambassadors of the Month are Jeffrey Janus, College of Wooster (Freiburg Language & Area Studies, Fall 2013) and Alexandra Yingst, University of Pittsburgh (Galápagos Islands Direct Enrollment: GAIAS, Spring 2014).

Jeffrey Janus is currently a student at the College of Wooster and has served as an IES Abroad Ambassador for more than a year. Jeffrey works regularly with his study abroad office as a peer advisor, and speaks with students about studying abroad at on-campus events. Additionally, Jeffrey takes initiative to share his study abroad experience in Freiburg with students by leading information sessions in German classes and speaking with student groups on campus. To further engage students, he emails those planning to study in Freiburg and helps with social media projects.

Jeffrey says, “I enjoy sharing my experience with others, as well as helping students select a program that best fits their needs. It’s very rewarding to help students prepare for the same journey that I embarked on.”

Alexandra Yingst works to promote study abroad on the University of Pittsburgh’s campus by hosting events related to international education, such as a study abroad information session for STEM students, hosting coffee hours with future IES Abroad students, and presenting to University of Pittsburgh student groups. She also volunteers at study abroad fairs and related events on campus. Alexandra communicates with future Galápagos Islands students through email and helps with several other online Ambassador Program initiatives.

Alexandra is a GoAbroad featured IES Abroad Alumni, and you can read her interview here.

“I love being an IES Abroad Ambassador because I enjoy helping students find the kind of life-changing experience that I had while abroad,” says Alexandra. “Also, I like telling all of my stories from my time in Ecuador and Galápagos Islands to new people, since all the other people in my life have already heard them too many times!”

Congratulations, Jeffrey and Alexandra!
