IES Abroad Paris 50th Anniversary: 1961-2011

For the nearly 8,000 students who studied at one of two IES Abroad Paris Centers, Paris has been a moveable feast of memories they have carried with them throughout their lives. This academic year marks the 50th anniversary of IES Abroad Paris. Paris alumni from around the world are commemorating their study abroad experience with IES Abroad Paris by submitting their memories via postcard and on our website.

The IES Abroad Paris French Studies Center opened for its first academic year program in the fall of 1961. It was the second Center of the Institute of European Studies (today known as IES Abroad). The original program in Paris was conceived as an “Honours Program in Contemporary European Civilization for Undergraduate Students.” In 2007, the IES Abroad Paris Business and International Affairs (BIA) program opened as a complement to the original program.

Today, the Paris Centers host more than 325 students annually for programs in French Studies, Language, and Business and International Affairs. Students participate in internships, field study trips, home stays, service learning experiences, direct enrollment in courses at partner universities, and extraordinary cultural events.
