Each of our programs offer unique academic opportunities that redefine how our students learn abroad. In addition to service learning placements, course-related excursions, and guest lecturers, the IES Abroad Buenos Aires Center recently offered an innovative way for students to engage with their studies—through its first academic symposium.

On Wednesday, June 10, students from a variety of courses presented what they had learned throughout the semester in their coursework. All IES Abroad Buenos Aires students were invited to attend the presentations, which were delivered in both Spanish and English. The symposium showcased an eclectic combination of topics, including: the historical tension between the city and the countryside in Argentina, the subsistent impact of dictatorship-era detention centers on the country today, the efforts of Greenpeace to tackle local environmental issues, and interesting perspectives from students on daily life in Argentina versus the United States.

Center Direct Juan Hudson stated, “[T]he serious degree to which our students prepared for this event, the attentive silence during the presentations, and the overall feedback afterwards are proof of its success. The following students who presented will receive a bound copy of the contributors’ articles.
