Best Places to Study in Madrid

After finishing midterms last week, I realized I spent almost as much time searching for computer-friendly study spots as I did studying. While Madrid has many coffee shops, most aren't ideal for working. Most coffee shops in Madrid restrict the use of computers, as they prioritize having the space for socializing. As someone who enjoys exploring new cafés but prefers not to study in my room (my bed is too close), I've had to look for other options. Here are my five favorite places to get work done in Madrid.

Eugenio Trias Municipal Public Library

My Spanish professor recommended this library, and it truly did not disappoint. Located on the edge of Retiro Park, it's ideal for study sessions since you can take scenic breaks. To ensure you get a seat, plan to arrive early in the morning or around midday when it’s less crowded. If you need a library card, bring your passport!

La Bicicleta Café

This coffee shop has one of the best iced lattes I have ever tried. It is close to Gran Via, and I found it to be a very comfortable space. They have seating that is just for people who have computers only during the weekdays, so this is my go-to spot on Fridays. The seating and lighting truly let you get so much work done. The location is also great, and I usually stop by a couple of vintage and thrift stores on my way to the bus stop.

Honest Greens

There are many locations all over Madrid, and no matter where, it is always busy, but the coffee and food are amazing. Most of the time, I will stop here on Mondays during my long break between classes, which is about 3 hours. I usually get there pretty early and get a matcha or chai latte. Once I have a couple of tasks done, I order some food. The bowls here are amazing and so fulfilling. The ambiance inside is very unique, but it aids me in getting work done.

ACID Café

This coffee shop has the best matcha (so far) in Madrid. I have been here multiple times due to the proximity to the IES campus. All of my classes are on campus, so I have been able to visit here after class to reward myself with a sweet treat or during class with some friends to talk or get some work done. It is a very small location, but I have always been able to find seating to get a quick assignment finished.

IES Abroad Campus Courtyard

This is a new place that I have discovered, but the courtyard has become one of my favorite places to get work done during the day. The weather has been less rainy over the past two weeks in Madrid, and I have started to enjoy spending more time outside. I have been able to meet new people and also spend time with my friends. I recommend taking a breath of fresh air outside!
