U.S.-Based Customized Program Manager (CPM) and Coordinator (CPC):

• Will assist your students in planning and preparing for your program.

Chicago-Based Dean of Students Office and Crisis Management Team:

• Available 24/7 in case of serious student emergencies.

Center-Based Staff (Program Manager/Coordinators):

• Available 24/7 in case of emergencies. Will be your Center contact for the program and work closely with you to prepare and implement the program. Will accompany students on all IES Abroad-sponsored events.

Enhanced Health & Safety:

• Additional predeparture orientations for the cohort prior to arrival on-site. Student Success Coordinator on-site and available to the group. Additional reflection time built into coursework and pre-/post-excursions.

CISI Insurance (Required): 

• This insurance covers IES Abroad students, faculty, and guests anywhere in the world during the specified program dates. Coverage includes doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, mental health treatment, and prescription drugs.

Orientation (Required): 

• Virtual and on-site orientations, including overview of the Center and the city, and comprehensive health and safety.

City Tour:

• Visit the most popular destinations in Cape Town including Bo-Kaap, District 6, and the National Gallery.

Meals:

• Welcome and farewell dinners to build sense of community and cohesion within the cohort.

Airport Transfer:

• Organized airport transfer available via coach bus service.

Transportation:

• Organized private transportation is available for all excursions and any event outside the Center.

Student Housing:

• Students will be placed in double-occupancy hotel rooms. Rooms with mountain or ocean views offer free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs, and tea and coffee making facilities. Hotel amenities include a restaurant, an outdoor pool and an exercise room. Breakfast is included. The hotel is a two-minute walk from the Sea Point Promenad, the beach, and 2.5 miles from the V&A waterfront. Sea Point, in itself, is a cultural hub with an abundance of restaurants, coffee shops, boutiques and African handicrafts.

Program Leader (Faculty/Staff) Housing:

• Program leaders are typically housed in self-catering apartments, each with a fully-equipped kitchen and Wi-Fi.

Site Visits Within City:

• Program includes five integrated site visits that bring together academic focus with tourist interests. Examples include: Tibb Treatment Centre, Gugulethu MOU, Etafeni, CANSA, and Soil for Life.

Day Trips Outside of City:

• Program includes one day trip out of the city that highlight the context of the immediate region.
  Examples include: Peninsula Tour plus Table Mountain, Kirstenbosch Gardens, etc.

Field Trips Outside of City:

• Program includes one international or local customizable cohort excursions that will be built into the program that may be linked thematically to the Program Leader's course. Accommodations, meals, and activities included. Examples include: Aquila Game Reserve, Johannesburg, Gqeberha, Hermanus, etc.

Cultural Events:

• Program includes two cultural events for the University’s students and Program Leader during the program such as a Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour or theatre/drum circle. Includes return transport, entrance fees, short neighborhood walking tour, visit to a spice shop, and lunch.
