About the Program
Length: Fall or Spring Semester
We invite you to consider our IES Abroad Siena Center as a site for hospitality and sustainable tourism. Courses and co-curricular activities are meant to maximize the location while expanding students’ perspectives more broadly to apply their experience in a globalized society. IES Abroad will serve as the platform for exposing students to the rich traditions of the “slow life” mindset that distinguishes Tuscan inhabitants: the locals take time to be truly present in the moment, enjoying their delicious meals or a glass of wine, strolls through town, or lengthy road trips in a deeper, more meaningful way. This highly immersive and innovative program is both academically rigorous and unique in the ways it highlights the experiential possibilities of the semester term using project-based learning and regional travel through the lens of slow tourism. Slow tourism seeks to maximize the cultural, social, and environmental impact on one’s presence in a place by encouraging visitors to stay longer in a destination and to go as “local” as possible. This semester program is meant to appeal to students studying Hospitality & Tourism Management.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee the availability of all housing, excursions, cultural events, guest lecturers or tours.
