U.S.-Based Customized Program Manager (CPM) and Coordinator (CPC):

• Will assist your students in planning and preparing for your program.

Chicago-Based Dean of Students Office and Crisis Management Team:

• Available 24/7 in case of serious student emergencies.

Center-Based Staff (Program Manager/Coordinators):

• Available 24/7 in case of emergencies. Will be your Center contact for the program and work closely with you to prepare and implement the program. Will accompany students on all IES Abroad-sponsored events.

CISI Insurance (Required): 

• This insurance covers IES Abroad students, faculty, and guests anywhere in the world during the specified program dates. Coverage includes doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, mental health treatment, and prescription drugs.

Orientation (Required): 

• Virtual and on-site orientations, including overview of the Center and the city, and comprehensive health and safety.

City Tour:

• Program includes a neighborhood walking tour and a canal boat tour.

Meals:

• Welcome and farewell dinners to build a sense of community and cohesion within the cohort.

Local Transportation Card:

• A local transportation card will be provided for students and faculty for the duration of the trip.

Student Housing:

• Students will be housed in shared hostels centrally located or premium-plus apartments with
  shared kitchen access outside the city center, but with excellent public transportation.

Program Leader (Faculty/Staff) Housing:

• Faculty will be housed in a centrally located hotel or in a premium-plus apartment with excellent public transportation.

Site Visits Within City:

• Program includes at least three integrated site visits that bring together academic focus with tourist interests. Examples include: Prostitution Information Center, Red Light District tour, Tour on LGBTQ+ history in Amsterdam, sex worker visit and interview.

Day Trips Outside of City:

• Program includes two day trips out of the city that highlight the context of the immediate region. Examples include: Utrecht with a visit to the Rutgers stichting and a walking tour with a focus on gender studies (ex: Queer walking tour of Utecht) and The Hague with a visit to COC Haaglanden.

Cultural Events:

• Program includes two cultural events for the University’s students during the program such as the Zaanse Schans (17th Century windmill park) and a visit to a traditional Dutch farm where you make your own cheese. Other examples include: Stedelijk Museum (with a tour focus on the female perspective on art) and the Rijksmuseum.
