About the Program

Length: Three weeks

We invite you to consider our IES Abroad Quito Center as a site for welcoming your cohort for an opportunity to explore and study Quito, the first UNESCO World Heritage city and one of the most fascinating cities in the world. This highly packed course is divided into three modules, each one developed to better understand the intricate relationship between Quito’s history and present urban planning, how the city upholds social diversity and inclusivity within its rich context of ancestral communities, and the natural parks that surround it and are essential for the survival of the city. The program focuses on experiential education, giving students an opportunity to experience Quito firsthand from various angles while understanding the globalized pressures that every city in the
world has in relation to historic preservation, urban planning, history, social diversity, and conservation efforts of natural resources. The program is meant to appeal second-, third-, and fourth-year Historic Preservation, Sociology, or Environmental Studies students who strive to analyze modern-day concepts of sustainable cities from a systemic point.

PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee the availability of all housing, excursions, cultural events, guest lecturers or tours.
