This week, IES Abroad President & CEO Mary M. Dwyer, Ph.D., found herself sitting in a recording studio at WGN Radio high above downtown Chicago to talk about all-things study abroad on “The Opening Bell with Steve Grzanich” WGN Radio show.

Listen To The Interview

After recently being named to the “Notable Women Executives Over 50” list by Crain’s Chicago Business, Dr. Dwyer was asked to be a guest for on WGN Radio for their “CEO Spotlight” segment.

From the benefits of studying abroad and where to study abroad, to increasing diversity in study abroad through innovative initiatives—like our new fully-funded study abroad program with Arrupe College—and our wonderful IES Abroad alumni, Dr. Dwyer discussed a number of important topics with the show's host, Steve Grzanich.

Speaking of IES Abroad alumni, out of pure happenstance the producer of the radio show is an IES Abroad alum! Bennett Wakenight (IES Abroad Barcelona, Spring 2014 | Loyola University Chicago) has been a producer for WGN Radio for the past four years.

"I'm always finding little things that take me back to my study abroad days—whether it's a picture on social media, a story in the news, or even a simple taste or smell that takes me back to Barcelona," Bennett says. "When I found out I was able to feature Dr. Dwyer on 'The Opening Bell', all of those experiences came flooding back and made me reflect on the good times I experienced through IES Abroad."
