Itinerary Snapshot
With a focus on leadership, social justice, and global education, the 5th Annual Morehouse College International Education Symposium celebrated the transformative power of international experiences and the students whose lives have been shaped by them. Hosted by the Andrew Young Center for Global Leadership, the symposium brought together students, faculty, alumni, and global education partners for a day of learning, reflection, and dialogue. Highlights included a keynote address by Dr. Denise Callejas, "Mejorando la raza": Reclaiming Black Representation in Latin America, and a Presidential Lecture Series conversation featuring Morehouse College President Dr. F. DuBois Bowman and former U.S. Secretary of Homeland Security and Morehouse alumnus Jeh Johnson.
Student presenters shared how study abroad, international internships, and global career experiences broadened their perspectives, challenged them academically, and prepared them to lead in an increasingly interconnected world. The program also showcased the academic and cultural impact of faculty-led, semester, summer, and partner programs.
IES Abroad was proud to facilitate a multigenerational panel, moderated by Noelle Baldwin, Assistant Vice President for Access & Strategic Partnerships at IES Abroad, exploring the lasting impact of study abroad and the power of the Merrill Scholarship, newly relaunched as a merit scholarship for Morehouse and Spelman Colleges' high achieving students. The discussion featured Dr. Edward L. Wheeler (Merrill Scholar & IES Abroad Vienna Alum, 1968), alongside current Merrill Scholars and recent alumni Isaiah Flye (Merrill Scholar & IES Abroad London Alum, 2026), Mouhamed Ndoye (IES Abroad Barcelona Alum, 2026), and Kye Glover-Tate (IES Abroad London Alum, 2026). Together, they highlighted how global experiences continue to shape leadership, careers, and personal growth across generations.
