How to Make the Most of Marrakech, Morocco

My trip to Marrakech, Morocco was honestly one of the most interesting trips I have been on and has been my favorite by far. This city held a bit of everything from adventure, culture, really good food, and moments that were truly unforgettable.

On the first day, we went straight into a four-wheel tour just outside the city. It was a quick turnaround after landing a few hours before, but still very fun. We drove across rocky terrain with dust flying absolutely everywhere and amazing views the entire time. We stopped halfway through for some Moroccan pancakes and mint tea, which was the perfect riding break. Sitting there in the middle of nowhere was such a change from city life, it was quiet and incredibly peaceful.

After our first tour, we checked into Earth Hostel. It was a great place to stay especially because of its location and felt very homey. That night, we went out to dinner at L’Mida, which had a beautiful rooftop view over the city. I tried beef tagine with couscous alongside a chai latte. This tagine was probably the best thing I ate on this trip with how rich and full of flavor it was. 

The second day started off slower with breakfast at the hostel before exploring.  We visited Ben Youssef, which was easily one of the most impressive places we saw due to the incredible architecture. The detailing of the mosque was impressive and had us all in awe as we passed through. Everything was so precise and decorative.

Afterwards, we went to 1112 Marrakesh, a premier traditional teahouse. It had the most calming atmosphere and was a perfect place to sit, eat, and to soak in the weather with the open roof. There are a plethora of teas, coffees, food and desserts to choose from and enjoy. It also holds a museum with different types of art and handmade pieces, showcasing the beautiful culture within Morocco.

Later in the day, we were picked up to head out to the Agafay Desert. It is not sandy like you might expect, it was more rocky but still impressive nonetheless. After arriving, we rode camels as the sun was starting to set behind the Atlas Mountains.

That night, we stayed at the desert resort nearby where we had a five-course dinner inside a massive tent. It turned into a full show with live music, a belly dancer, and a fire dancer. At one point, I got pulled up to dance and that was definitely the most unexpected but fun part of the night. We were able to get henna done before spending time around the fire-pit with live music. 

The next morning, we woke up early to watch the sunrise to soak in the last of mountains. After breakfast, we headed back into Marrakech and spent the day in the souks before our flight back. It was a bit overwhelming at times but in the best way possible. There is something for everyone and if there is not, the sellers are often willing to craft something for you. There were many different districts to explore such as clothes, spices, ceramics, leather and more. It was truly the best way to end the trip.
