How do I start applying to IES Abroad?

Start by notifying your study abroad office of your interest in IES Abroad and ask if there is an internal application process at your school. Next, check the application deadline and review the application requirements for your program of interest. Finally, submit the online application and submit the supplemental requirements from your MyIESabroad account after your application is processed

What is the GPA requirement?

For most IES Abroad semester programs, the minimum GPA requirement is 2.75 on a 4.0 scale. For most IES Abroad and IES Internships summer programs, the minimum GPA requirement is 2.5. There are some exceptions, however, so please verify your program's specific application requirements here.

What is the age requirement?

Students must be at least 18 years of age at the start of the IES Abroad program.

Do I have to be enrolled as a full-time university student in order to apply?

IES Abroad will consider applicants who are not currently enrolled in a full-time university on a case-by-case basis. Priority is given to students who are enrolled.

I don’t currently have a valid passport. Can I still apply to an IES Abroad program?

Yes, but we strongly encourage you to start the process of applying for a new passport immediately.

When is the application deadline? Application deadlines vary based on the program and term in which you wish to enroll. Find a list of application deadlines here

What is the Home School Authorization form?

This form is used by your home school to approve your participation in an IES Abroad program. Contact your home school Study Abroad Office for instructions on how to complete this form.

What is the Foreign Language Assessment form?

This form is necessary for certain programs with language prerequisites.

What is the Internship Approval form?

The internship approval form is a necessary part of the application for all students applying to full-time summer internship programs. If you are considering a part-time internship as part of a study abroad program, you will complete a similar form after admission to the program.

Where do I get an official transcript?

If required for your application, ask your home school advisor for more information about how to request this. Upload your official or unofficial transcript to your MyIESabroad account after your online application is processed.

How do I submit my application materials?

After your online application is processed, upload your supplemental application materials to your MyIESabroad account. View the application requirements on your program's Application Requirements page.

I don’t have access to a scanner. What do I do?

Try visiting your school's library or a local copy shop. You might also consider downloading scan apps, such as Genius Scan, on your smart phone.

I submitted my application materials. How will I know if they were received?

You will receive an email confirmation each time a piece of your application is processed. You can also ask your advisor if you have questions about the status of your application.

When will I find out if I'm accepted?

Processing times vary for admission to Direct Enrollment programs, in which the university makes the admissions decision. However, if you are applying for an IES Abroad program, you will receive an admissions decision within 1-2 weeks. We will keep you updated throughout the entire application process.

What is included in IES Abroad program fees?
