About the Program
Length: Four weeks
We invite you to consider our IES Abroad Tokyo Center as a site for exploring Japan's vibrant pop culture. The program will allow students to examine a range of topics including anime, manga, technology, music, and cinema in this bustling metropolis. Engaging in traditional Japanese art and craft activities will give students an understanding of how these art forms continue to influence modern Japanese culture. This highly immersive and innovative program is both academically rigorous and unique in the ways it will focus on contemporary Japanese culture through a historical, social, and anthropological lens. Courses and co-curricular activities are meant to maximize the location while expanding students’ perspectives more broadly to apply their experience in a globalized society. This four-week program is meant to appeal to students interested in studying Japanese culture through an interdisciplinary framework.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee the availability of all housing, excursions, cultural events, guest lecturers or tours.
