About the Program
Length: Six weeks
We invite you to consider our Rome Center as a site for welcoming your cohort for a six-week program. This highly immersive and innovative summer program focuses on understanding the construction technologies and bridge systems in the Ancient Roman World. The program is meant to appeal to Civil Engineering, Architecture, and Archaeology students. From aqueducts to concrete domes, from roads to marble architectural elements, the program will make ample use of field studies and sites to observe directly the evidence of construction methods and to discover the economic, industrial, organizational, and technological processes that lie behind the creation of the astonishing monuments of Ancient Rome. The program revolves around two courses that analyze the engineering techniques and production systems used in the construction of the architectural masterpieces of the Roman world and structural analysis of ancient and modern bridges.
