Parks & Plazas in Buenos Aires!

I am by all means a city girl through and through. I love walking down bustling streets, squeezing past people and somehow appreciate the sirens and noises that come with life in a city. Nonetheless, not much means more to me in a city than a park. Parks and plazas, in my mind, are essential. They’re third spaces where people go to socialize, rest, and get inspired all at the same time. Thus, it is to no surprise to anyone who knows me that one of my favorite things about Buenos Aires is its abundance of parks and plazas. In order to get into each and everyone, I’d have to spend a year visiting the many, many neighborhoods of the city. So, instead, in the pictures below, I compiled my ten favorites. 

The Palermo neighborhood is famous for its parks. Originally started by aristocrats who wanted to follow in the footsteps of those in the great European cities, park culture became central to the affluent neighborhood. There, parks like Parque Tres de Febrero, Ecoparque, Jardin Japones, etc. can be found. These parks are both important to locals and tourists. Within Palermo, Plaza Serrano is a great plaza that hosts a crafts market each weekend. Located within a very artsy part of the neighborhood, lots of street art surrounds it. Moreover, closer to Retiro, where the IES Center building is located, Plaza General San Martin and Plaza Lavalle are  beautiful parks that students like myself visit often. Outside these central neighborhoods, other parks and plazas can be found like Plaza Mitre in San Isidro, Plaza de Mayo by the president’s building, Plaza del Congreso and Plaza Mariano Moreno by the congress building, and Parque Naciones Unidas in Recoleta. No matter where you are in the city, you can rest assured that if you need a place to wind down, talk to someone, sit down, or walk around, you’ve got one just around the block.
