DREAMers Abroad | DACA, Identity, and Studying Abroad

In celebration of Latinx Heritage Month, Thursday, September 30th at 3 p.m. CST join IES Abroad alum Sergio Rodriguez Camarena, and IES Abroad Brand Coordinator, and alum, Ashley Simmons for an Instagram Live chat. Sergio, a DACA Recipient, recalls his study abroad experience while illuminating the nuances of a DACA student's journey. Sergio’s story engages with intersectional identity, politics, liberation, and the power of creating oneself amidst the vastness of study abroad opportunities. Watch as Ashley and Sergio connect, offering future students more tools to author their life stories with their study abroad chapter.

This is a past event, but you can watch the recording below and tune in for a conversation focused on DACA, Identity, and study abroad!

About Sergio: Sergio is a 2014 alum of the IES Abroad Freiburg - European Union Program and received his Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from Pomona College. He was awarded the 2016 Ambassador of the Year Award for his exceptional efforts in reaching out to first-generation, low-income, and undocumented students to learn more about study abroad opportunities. He even presented about undocumented students and Advance Parole at the NAFSA 2015 Region XII Conference in Hawaii. For Sergio, it is important to increase access to study abroad programs, especially for students that look like him and come from similar backgrounds, because they, too, deserve to be a part of this space and experience these life-changing opportunities.
