IES Abroad Customized & Faculty-Led Programs has been running unique and tailored study abroad programs for more than 75 years. Now, they would like to turn your idea into a reality for you and your students.

We are proud to offer a total of $50,000 in grants for winners to put towards a faculty-led study abroad program with the IES Abroad Global Pillars (Sustainable Living, Equitable Living, Human Well-Being).

How It Works

Complete the entry form by July 1, 2026.
Proposals will be reviewed by a panel of IES Abroad staff.
Judging of proposals will be based upon:
- How well the program fosters learning in the proposed designated location and connects with one of the designated IES Abroad Global Pillars
- If the academic program engages students in the intellectual, political, cultural, and/or social institutions of the host country
- How well the chosen location is used as a learning resource
- If academic excursions and field trips led by qualified guides are integrated into the program
- Suggested topics for guest speakers and/or field trips
Proposals will be accepted until July 1, 2026, at 4:30 p.m. CDT.

Grant Criteria

Must be in one of our IES Abroad locations.
Disciplines: IES Abroad Global Pillars (Sustainable Living, Equitable Living and/or Human Well-Being), academic areas inspired by UN’s Sustainable Development Goals
Number of Students: Minimum of 10 students on program
Program Duration: Minimum of two weeks (14 days)
Program Dates: Must start on or after July 15, 2026, to end on or by July 14, 2027
Note:
- Grants cannot be used for accompanying guests
- Program must be credit-bearing and led by a faculty member of the institution
- An accompanying syllabus or course description is required in the application
- Faculty must consult with an IES Abroad Customized Program Manager prior to submission
- No more than two entries by a single faculty member will be allowed
- Existing or past programs run with IES Customized & Faculty-Led Programs are not eligible
