U.S.-Based Customized Program Manager (CPM) and Coordinator (CPC):

• Will assist your students in planning and preparing for your program.

Chicago-Based Dean of Students Office and Crisis Management Team:

• Available 24/7 in case of serious student emergencies.

Center-Based Staff (Program Manager/Coordinators):

• Available 24/7 in case of emergencies. Will be your Center contact for the program and work closely with you to prepare and implement the program. Will accompany students on all IES Abroad-sponsored events.

Enhanced Health & Safety:

• Additional predeparture orientations for the cohort prior to arrival on-site. Student Success Coordinator on-site and available to the group. Additional reflection time built into coursework and pre-/post-excursions.

CISI Insurance (Required): 

• This insurance covers IES Abroad students, faculty, and guests anywhere in the world during the specified program dates. Coverage includes doctor’s appointments, hospital stays, mental health treatment, and prescription drugs.

Orientation (Required): 

• Virtual and on-site orientations, including overview of the Center and the city, and comprehensive health and safety.

City Tour:

• Program includes a full-day scenic drive along Cape Peninsula to most south-westerly point of
  Africa (Cape Point), boat trip to view Seal Island, visit to penguins at Boulders Beach. Includes return transport, entrance fees and lunch. 

Meals:

• Enjoy two delicious meals (Welcome Dinner and Farewell Dinner) at Cape Town's most loved restaurants to build sense of community and cohesion within the cohort.

Airport Transfer:

• Organized airport transfer available via coach bus service.

Transportation:

• Organized private transportation is available for all excursions and any event outside the Center.

Student Housing:

• Students will be housed in a centrally located, single-room, residence hall-style accommodation near the UCT campus, which includes fortnightly cleaning and Wi-Fi. Biometric security is provided. If residence hall-style accommodation is not available, students will be housed in a hotel or guest house.

Program Leader (Faculty/Staff) Housing:

• Program leaders are typically housed in self-catering apartments, each with a fully-equipped kitchen and Wi-Fi.

Site Visits Within City:

• Program includes three integrated site visits that bring together academic focus with tourist
  interests. Examples include: District 6 Neighborhood tour, Cissie Gool House/Ndifuna Kwazi/Social Justice Centre, Sustainability Institute, UCT campus tour, etc.

Day Trips Outside of City:

• Program includes two day trips out of the city that highlight the context of the immediate region. Examples include: Robben Island, Iziko Slave Lodge, Kirstenbosch Gardens, Table Mountain, etc.

Field Trips Outside of City:

• Program includes one built-in international or local customizable cohort excursion that may be
  linked thematically to the Program Leader's course. Accommodations, meals, and activities included. Examples include: Kruger National Park and Safari Tour, Johannesburg, Gqeberha, Hermanus, etc.

Cultural Events:

• Program includes two cultural events such as a Bo-Kaap Cooking Tour or theatre/drum circle. Includes return transport, entrance fees, short neighborhood walking tour, visit to a spice shop, and lunch.

Available upon request. Includes cost of all program components listed above. Does not include international airfare to/from the host country. Ten student minimum required to run the program.
