About the Program
Length: Two weeks
We invite you to consider our IES Abroad Arles Center as a site for Biology or Environmental Science cohorts. Nestled in the heart of Provence, Arles offers a unique blend of natural beauty, rich history, and ecological diversity. Arles’ proximity to several key habitats, including Mediterranean coastlines, salt marshes, forests, and agricultural lands, makes it an ideal location to observe and analyze biodiversity and conservation efforts. Use the region as your classroom with the Camargue wetlands to the south, Alpilles to the east, and the Crau only a 20-minute drive away. Students can learn from Tour du Valat, a conservation research center for Mediterranean wetlands, and explore the Ornithological Park of Pont de Gau. Arles is also only a short distance from both Marseille and Montpellier, with opportunities to study marine biology, agriculture, and biodiversity. Courses and co-curricular activities are meant to maximize the location while expanding students’ perspectives more broadly to apply their experience in a globalized society. IES Abroad will serve as the platform for exposing students to the rich biodiverse landscape of southern France.
This program is meant to appeal to students who do not have a French language background and are interested in studying biology in the beautiful scenery of Provence.
PLEASE NOTE: We cannot guarantee the availability of all housing, excursions, cultural events, guest lecturers or tours.
