Students interested in engineering courses will attend classes at Polytech Nice Sophia, located in Sophia Antipolis, known internationally as the French Silicon Valley.

Université Nice Sophia Antipolis
Founded in 1965, the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis is a public university located in the city of Nice and its surrounding neighborhoods. UNS consists of nine training and research units, two institutes, and two schools. While in Nice, you take 15-19 credits per semester. Students who directly enroll at UNS will take courses in the following areas:
Academic life at UNS involves a range of instructional styles (lectures, seminars, tutorials) as well as assessment methods (exams, essays, projects.). Bear in mind that certain courses may have prerequisites and all courses are taught in French.
Some courses of special interest include (courses change from term to term):
Polytech Nice Sophiawww.polytechnice.fr
The Engineering school Polytech Nice Sophia Antipolis is located in the Sophia Antipolis Research Park, and is known as a Grande École d’Ingenieur Française. Strong French language skills are required for students interested in enrolling at the Polytech but a limited number of English courses are available in the upper division.
Students in their fourth year have the option to participate in a special project with a group of French and international students for a French corporation. Full year students may be eligible to remain in France for the summer in a paid internship.
In a direct enrollment program, you are enrolled as a full-time student at one of our international partner institutions. Even though your local host institution is where you’ll take your classes, we’re still here to fully support you.
Choosing and enrolling in courses abroad can be confusing and overwhelming—we offer you predeparture advising that’s specific to your needs. Our goal is to provide support and guidance throughout your application and enrollment process.
But our advising services don’t stop there. While you’re in Nice, our staff is available to help you transition into your new home.
As an IES Abroad student directly enrolled at Université Nice Sophia Antipolis, you have access to on-site IES Abroad staff who are specifically dedicated to your needs. Our on-site staff work with you and your local institution to answer any questions about academic requirements, housing, or well-being and safety.
Our support services for direct enrollment students are specifically designed to help you achieve your study abroad goals as effectively and smoothly as possible. We know studying abroad is an adventure, and, at times, you may need help or just someone to talk to—that’s why our staff is there for you.
We want to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding which landmarks to see first or discovering the best café—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave Nice, it will feel like home.
Homestays - Stay in a French home in Nice or its surroundings. You are provided breakfast daily and four evening meals a week.
Apartments - A limited number of placements in apartments are available throughout the city. The fully-equipped apartment houses other IES Abroad students. Washing machines are available in or near the building. No meals are provided in this housing option.
Students interested in engineering courses will live in Antibes, a beautiful resort town just a 30-minute drive from Nice, where students on the SKEMA Direct Enrollment Program also live.
Part of making you feel at home in Nice is doing our best to help you feel safe and cared for. Whether it’s the orientation program that prepares you for what’s ahead, your housing that is well-located and comfortable, or the field trips that take you to places off the beaten path—we’re all about our student services.
The program begins with an orientation that introduces you to the IES Abroad Nice staff, your fellow students, and the city and culture of Nice. The orientation covers important topics such as academics, housing, transportation, and health and safety.
CORE™, IES Abroad’s Comprehensive Orientation & Re-entry Experience, begins during orientation and continues throughout the semester with activities focusing on cultural adjustment, goal achievement, and preparing for the return home.
Following IES Abroad orientation, you begin a short orientation program at UNS, where you are introduced to other students and learn about academics and student life.
Redefine the way you live and learn in Nice through our cultural events, such as:
University Clubs & Events
While you’re in France, getting involved in a social or sports club is a great way to meet local students. While studying at the Université Nice Sophia Antipolis, you can participate in any of the University’s student organizations, activities, and cultural exchanges.
