Why limit yourself to just one country when you can spend time in three? Participating in one of IES Abroad’s multi-country study abroad programs allows you to do just that! Our Multi-Location Summer – Museums & Beyond: Art & Culture in Paris, Rome & Madrid Summer Program will introduce you to three European countries that are world-renowned for their rich histories in art and culture:
When you visit France, you will have the opportunity to tour world-famous landmarks while being guided by knowledgeable IES Abroad staff. See the Mona Lisa with your own eyes at the Louvre Museum, examine modern masterpieces at the Centre Pompidou, and witness the opulence of the Palace of Versailles. Many great advances in civilization began in France—Gothic architecture, the code of chivalry, the Enlightenment, and the science of gastronomy among them. Experience the legendary French joie de vivre firsthand on this leg of your journey through Western Europe.
Everywhere you go in Italy, reminders of the past mix with scenes of modern life. You may pass Roman ruins, a medieval cathedral and cloister, and a Renaissance fountain, all on your way to shop at a modern mall. As you explore the Roman Forum, you will learn about the rise and fall of this ancient civilization, standing where powerful emperors stood over a thousand years ago. You will see the center of the Roman Catholic Church—and some of the world’s most recognizable masterpieces—as you wander the massive Vatican City Museums. This is your chance to discover how the past and present coexist side by side in the Eternal City.
Between visits to the Museo Macional de Ciencias Naturales and El Escorial, Spain will delight you with its laid-back culture and world-class cuisine. Spend your time in Spain wandering the prestigious Prado Museum, where you will find works of art from Goya and El Greco, followed by a trip to the ultra-modern Reina Sofía, home to modern pieces created by Picasso, Dalí, and more. Journey south of Madrid to visit the medieval fortress city of Toledo, whose blended culture shows Roman, Catholic, Jewish, and Arab influences. This mix has produced stunning and varied architecture that is certain to take your breath away as you wander the cobblestoned streets of this beautiful city.
