Updates received Spring 2015
Michael Edmondson, 2013 Spring - After studying abroad, Michael enrolled in a dual degree MA/MSc program in International and World history at Columbia University and the London School of Economics. While abroad, IES helped Michael get an internship at the American Academy in Rome where he helped archive museum material and some of that work inspired him to continue on and study history at the graduate level. As a result, Michael has most recently presented a paper entitled "Crusade Finance Reform in the Emergence of a Western European Economy". He is about to finish at Columbia and move to London to start at the London School of Economics. This summer Michael interning at the U.S. Department of State in the Office of the Assistant Secretary for the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs. He also received an Alliance Fellowship from Columbia University to conduct research in Bermuda for his thesis entitled: 'The Isle of Devils: The Joint-Stock Origins of Bermuda. Michael says, “Study abroad and the opportunities it provided—especially in Rome—only heightened my interest in history and the inspiration of some of my teachers, especially Gianni Ponti, showed that it was possible to make history a lifelong pursuit.”

Alex Ticas, 2006 Spring – Alex met his fiancée, Katharine, while studying abroad. Eight years later, they are engaged and planning wedding in September 2014. They will include elements of Rome as the theme for the wedding.
Molly Becker, 2013 Spring – In May, Molly graduated from the University of Illinois with a double major in Hhistory and Classical Civilizations, while also working at the Fighting Illini Football Office and as a research assistant for the Director of Graduate Studies in the History Department. In summer 2014 she interned at the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY with the Education Department.
Katie Logan, 2013 Spring – In spring 2014, Katie graduated from Providence College with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Italian.

Michael McHugh, 2011 Spring – Michael graduated Penn State with Distinction in May of 2012 with a BS in Finance and minors in Italian and International Business. Post-graduation, he traveled Europe for six weeks including an extensive trip through Italy. During his tour of Italy, Michael visited the IES Rome Center and met up with some of the faculty from his semester abroad. Recently, Michael began his career with JP Morgan's Investment Banking Real Estate team in New York.

Carolina Sanchez-Hervas, 2010 Fall – Carolina graduated magna cum laude from Rhodes College with a degree in International Studies. She will start a Master’s in Food Studies at New York University this fall. Her website is www.carolina-sanchez.com and she is writing a cookbook and other materials for publication. She is passionate about a plant-based lifestyle and attempts to help as many people as possible transition to this lifestyle.
