For the past two decades, Richard Landers, Vienna 68-69, has devoted himself through philanthropy to the education of undergraduates on the challenges of environmental sustainability, with particular focus on energy issues. In his professional life, Richard was a founding partner of the private equity firm GFI Energy Ventures and a strategic planning consultant for Venture Associates and Arthur Andersen & Co. Prior to that he held senior planning and strategy positions in Los Angeles and Washington, D.C. with Southern California Gas Company and its holding company, Pacific Enterprises Corporation. He began his professional career as a Foreign Service Officer in the U.S. State Department with special responsibilities for international energy matters. He has a B.A. degree from Claremont McKenna College and an M.B.A. from the Duke University Fuqua School of Business.

Applicants must be accepted to and attend the Freiburg Environmental Studies and Sustainability program in the fall, spring, academic year or calendar year
Applicants must be undergraduates in good standing at an accredited U.S. college or university
Applicants must have declared a major in one or more of the following: Economics, Urban Studies, International Business/Affairs/Relations, Humanities, Public Policy, Political Science, Philosophy, Geography, and/or minoring in Environmental Studies (ES).
