About Arkansas
The University of Arkansas boasts a tradition unique among the nation’s universities: Senior Walk, more than three miles of sidewalks crisscrossing the campus and engraved with the names of graduates dating back 140 years. It is evidence of U of A’s determination to make students its priority and create an environment perfect for learning.
This “students-first philosophy” nurtured alumni such as US President Bill Clinton, successful best-selling author Charles Portis, and a cornucopia of sports stars.
Fayetteville, Arkansas, the home of the University of Arkansas, has made its name as the top college town in the United States; with its famous Southern hospitality alongside a vibrant art scene, the town is alive with activity, creativity, and innovation.
Advising & Support
Choosing and directly enrolling in courses abroad can be confusing and overwhelming. This is why we offer you predeparture advising that’s specific to your needs. Our goal is to provide support and guidance throughout your application and enrollment process. But our advising services don’t stop there, and our staff is available to help you transition into your new home.
The support services we offer SAF direct enrollment students are specifically designed to help you achieve your study abroad goals as effectively and smoothly as possible. We know studying abroad is an adventure, and, at times, you may need help or just someone to talk to—that’s why our staff are there for you.
Whether you have questions about academic requirements, housing, or well-being and safety, our SAF staff is available to fully support you. Because of our close relationship with our university partners, SAF is also able to offer you unique academic, social, and cultural opportunities.
Daily Life
With such a close-knit community, campus life is abundant in things to do, cultural experiences to share in, and clubs and organizations to appeal to everyone. You can catch headline acts at free concerts or indulge in culturally relevant plays and lectures.
As the campus is quite rural, sports are high on the agenda, so get to a Razorbacks game or pep rally for the true American experience or join any of the intramural activities for some friendly competition.
Housing
During your time at the University of Arkansas, you live in co-ed Gregson Hall, an on-campus dormitory, sharing a twin bedroom with your roommate and entering into campus life by spending time with other students in the shared bathroom, kitchen, common area, and laundry. The SAF program fee includes a 10-meal plan (10 meals per week, $125 dining dollars per semester) and one night of early arrival; it does not include break-stay housing.
Extracurricular Activities & Cultural Events
The campus is in a beautiful hilly area of northwest Arkansas known as the Ozarks. It overlooks the Ozark Mountains, so hiking, swimming, and geocaching are popular activities for students. You should also explore Ozark National Forest and the Buffalo National River or adventure a little further to visit Texas, Memphis, and St. Louis.
There are more than 380 student organizations and clubs to choose from while you are at U of A as well as impressive sport amenities and coaching. The Distinguished Lecture Series has brought speakers from Jane Goodall to Anderson Cooper to campus and is extremely popular.
