About the Program

New Italy Visa Process Starting Fall 2025

The Italian Senate recently approved a Legislative Decree introducing key changes that will significantly impact the visa application process for students planning to study abroad in Italy for longer than 90 days.

Starting January 10, 2025, students must appear in person at their consulate for fingerprinting. Batch processing like IES Abroad's ACCeSS program will no longer be allowed.

We're looking at interim solutions for our Fall 2025 and Spring 2026 programs, including possibly modifying the length of our programs. We expect to have more information soon and will keep all applicants, students, and school partners informed.

History comes to life in Siena, as is most evident in the robust life of the contrade— neighborhood districts that divide Siena into 17 large families with common customs and traditions dating back to the Middle Ages.

This program’s signature course, Living Siena: Exploring Historical & Contemporary Tuscan Culture, guides you on an exploration of the region as you develop an independent research project throughout the semester. Our esteemed faculty take learning outside the classroom with visits to local sites and museums, as well as activities with a contrada. Customize your academic experience with an Italian language course, English- or Italian taught area studies courses, and an optional part-time internship.
