Although the city is known for its vibrant arts and culture, Berlin has more than 2,500 parks and gardens to stroll, cycle, swim, picnic, or just unwind in.

Visit Neighborhoods

From the alternative cafes and fabulous nightlife of Kreuzberg to the hub of art galleries, stylish restaurants, and shopping that make up Mitte, the city's neighborhoods give Berlin its unique character.

Explore Museums

Whether you are into art and design, ancient or modern history, or alternative lifestyles, Berlin is a city full of excellent museums.

Observe the Architecture

Though it was nearly destroyed during World War II, Berlin has rebuilt, with restored historic buildings juxtaposed with breathtaking modern structures.

Check Out the East Side Gallery

The longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall is now an outdoor art exhibition, featuring the work of more than 100 artists.

$6+ Million in Scholarships & Aid

We firmly believe that financial limitations should not prevent a qualified student from participating in an IES Abroad Program. This is why we commit more than $6 million to our scholarship and aid programs.

Noch zwei Monate in der Hauptstadt

Post by Corey Brown

4 months in, a new phase of my time in Berlin has begun. Eight people, including myself, are staying through the end of July to take a class at Humboldt Universität, one of the local universities. I'm taking German as a second language at the B2 level, which is nice because most people in the class can converse decently in German. Sometimes it can feel like playing a game when speaking a foreign language with other Americans.

Sunburning with Cigarette Butts Stuck to My Outsoles

Post by Corey Brown

I was walking home one warm weekend morning when I realized how beautiful the leaves make Berlin's streets. Strolling down the same roads I have been on for months now, I've had to reintroduce myself to the places I learned to appreciate for their energy or architecture alone. I still want to travel and see other big cities in Germany, but I think there's nowhere else I'd rather be than Berlin right now.

German Mickey Mouse Caused My Ego Death

Post by Corey Brown

When I stepped inside this art gallery and brutalist church in Kreuzberg, my full body went into shock. Truly I got cramps from the excitement. The König Galerie was the first gallery I had intentionally searched out to familiarize myself with the contemporary art scene in Berlin. There are so many different art museums in the city that it took me 3 months to realize I hadn't seen anything contemporary.

some guy spilled wine on my good pants, but I'm not mad about it

Post by Corey Brown

Has this ever happened to you? I was in Kreuzberg at a bar with some friends, and a guy spilled his wine on my favorite pair of pants. They’re pants I took from my dad’s old wardrobe from the 90s, and I love how loose they sit on my waist and legs. There’s definitely a bit of a stain on the side now, but like paintings, some guy spilling his wine is just part of the process.

Reimagining a Sense of Home

Post by Defne Egbo

In what feels like the blink of an eye, over a month has passed since I first arrived in Berlin. The rhythm of my daily life changed as quickly as the sights and faces I interact with every day. Now, instead of speed walking to class from my campus-adjacent dorm, my routes and timing have to be more intentional, and less rushed.
