After a life-changing experience abroad, coming home may be an adjustment. IES Abroad Correspondents reflect on this important transition period and the process of re-entry.

Dank Je Wel, Amsterdam

June 2, 2019

As I sit in the Keflavik Airport, I sit back and reflect on the wildest, most wonderful four months of my life.

Reflection: Pictorial Edition

May 31, 2019

Hey everyone,

Since my semester in Nagoya has ended, I wanted to share photos I took throughout the semester. Before heading to the pictures, I want to reflect on my time abroad.

Memories of Morocco

May 31, 2019

What my grandmother remembers best about Morocco is the moment she stepped off the ferry at the port of Tangier. I can imagine what she saw, because it’s hardly changed since the 1960s: a white city on a hill, shadowing the sea, its buildings glinting like porcelain in the sun, or the insides of oyster shells. As she stood and gazed at it all, she was swarmed by the insistent vendors who wait at the road that runs by the docks for tourists to stumble off the boats, offering them taxi rides and trinkets.

Likes, Dislikes, and Advice: Reflections

May 30, 2019

I’ve made it back to the States! I am exhausted from traveling, but I’m glad I made it back safely. I’d like to talk about my time in Japan—what I liked, what I didn’t like, what advice I have, etc.

The Beauty Carries On

Coming home from abroad can be sad, but it's exactly what you need to appreciate 4 months well spent.

Bye, Bye Berlin

May 26, 2019

It has officially been a week since my study abroad program ended, and I am still en route back home to Buffalo, New York. The day after my program ended, I packed up and flew to Ispica, Sicily with my grandfather. We spent six days living on the coast and exploring the local towns. Leaving bustling Berlin for serene Sicily was a tonal shift, and it better prepared me to return home.

Chau, Chile!

As I bid goodbye to study abroad, I reflect on my study abroad experience before heading home!

Farewell, Freiburg

May 18, 2019

It’s been more than a week since I’ve left Freiburg, but the city and the time I spent there is still often on my mind. The four months that I spent there might have felt long when I was still in the middle of my program, but looking back, it feels as if the past four months of my life have gone by in the blink of an eye.
