Brooke Fakhoury in Siena

My name is Brooke Fakhoury, and I am from Southern California studying abroad in Siena, Italy! I’m a junior at the University of Richmond, majoring in English with a minor in History. Other than reading and writing (both in and out of the classroom), I enjoy hiking, cheering on my favorite soccer teams, and eating pasta. After graduation, I plan to stay in the East Coast since I’ve grown attached to my winter coat and would hate to retire it so soon.

Favorite thing about going abroad?
My passions were important to me when I was choosing a study abroad program. I'm passionate about learning a new language, fully integrating myself in a new culture, and exploring my academic interests of English and history. There were so many countries, programs, and institutions that would allow me to accomplish my goals for study abroad, so I had to narrow my focus even further. This, of course, is where my one true passion came into play: Pasta.
Siena, Italy is a small city that I probably wouldn't have been aware of if I had not taken my obsession with carbs into account. But once I stumbled upon the program when I focused my search to Italy, I couldn't imagine a better setting for my abroad experience. I loved that Siena's small size would make language and cultural immersion more accessible, and the city was full of historical significance that I could explore in IES classes. Of course, I could do all of this while eating pasta. I simply couldn't resist.
