IES Abroad offers teaching grants for faculty members from full member consortium schools to teach at select IES Abroad programs. Candidates should be prepared to teach one course for a semester or in a summer program. Please note adjunct faculty and faculty who teach exclusively in graduate programs are not eligible.

We welcome faculty members who have interests in teaching courses related to the Center’s curriculum at the following IES Abroad Centers:

Barcelona

Dublin

Madrid

Rome

Berlin

European Union Program in
Freiburg, Germany

Milan

Vienna

Buenos Aires

London

Paris

 

IES Abroad will provide:

  • Transportation to and from the Center
  • Teaching stipend
  • Housing allowance of $4,000 for a semester or $2,000 for the summer

Nomination Deadlines:

  • October 15, 2017 for Summer 2018
  • December 1, 2017 for Fall 2018 and Spring 2019
  • October 15, 2018 for Summer 2019

Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.

How to Nominate:
Please complete the nomination form and upload the following documents:

1) Course proposal
One-two single spaced pages addressing:

  • What subject matter will the course cover?
  • Are there any prerequisites for the course?
  • What are the learning outcomes of the course?
  • What is the approach to teaching the course?
  • Why is the course important and how does it connect to the location where it would be taught?
  • What field study opportunities could be incorporated into the course?
  • What are the forms of assessment?
  • Why are you qualified to teach this course?

2) Nomination from a department chair or Dean  
One single spaced page or less addressing:

  • The applicant’s qualifications for teaching this course.
  • The applicant’s contribution to his/her home university.
  • The connection between the recommender and applicant.

3) Applicant's Curriculum Vitae

  • Employment history
  • Education
  • Published works
  • Presentations
  • Language abilities
  • International experience

4) Letter detailing the applicant’s overall plan for the time abroad 
One single spaced page or less addressing:

  • Why did you choose the IES Abroad program and location?
  • What do you hope to contribute/gain while teaching at the Center?
  • How is your course going to enhance the existing courses offerings at the Center? The course should relate to existing curriculum but not duplicate what the Center is already teaching.
