Milan comes to life in the early summer, when the Milanese and tourists alike enjoy the architecture, sidewalk cafés, shops, street artists, open-air cinema, outdoor concerts, and the special sense of beauty and fashion that make Milan famous around the world. As one of only a few American programs in Milan, we offer you the opportunity to integrate fully into the daily life of Italy's most creative city.
EXPO MILANO 2015
From May to October, the city of Milan will host the World Expo of 2015: Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life. Join millions of visitors at thousands of grand scope gatherings, conferences, events, exhibitions, projects, discussions, design, architectural and scientific experiments. Don't miss the opportunity to say, "I was there, too!"
After you are admitted, refer to the Travel Dates section of the Predeparture Information in your MyIESabroad account before booking travel.
Our mission is simple: to provide you with the best study abroad program possible—which includes the highest quality academic and cultural experiences.
You enroll in a 3-credit Italian language course and one 3-credit area studies course for a total of 6 credits. Placement in the Italian language course is determined by an online predeparture language assessment and on-site language test conducted during orientation. Course disciplines include:
This is a list of planned course offerings. After you are accepted, you will see a list of final course offerings in your MyIESabroad account.
IES Abroad Milan organizes course-related excursions that complement what you’re learning in the classroom, and contribute to your general knowledge of Italian culture and society.
We want to make sure that your greatest challenge is deciding which landmarks to see first or discovering the best café—not finding a place to live where you feel comfortable. We do our best to locate housing that is reflective of how the local students are living. Our goal is that when you leave Milan, it will feel like home.
The furnished apartments are single-sex and typically house three to six IES Abroad students. You will be housed with an Italian Communitiy Assistant, an Italian roommate who is either a college student or young working professional. Meals are not provided but apartments offer fully-equipped kitchens. Internet access and a washing machine are provided and apartments are located close to public transportation.
Part of making you feel at home in Milan is doing our best to help you feel safe and cared for. Whether it is an orientation program that prepares you, housing that is well-located and comfortable, or the field trips that take you to places off the beaten path—we’re all about our student services. This is just one of the things we’re known for.
The two-day orientation program starts with travel to the ancient, elegant resort city of Sirmione (Lake Como) and is followed by a day-long tour of Milan. Orientation sessions include:
The Milan staff organizes optional field trips to places of historical and cultural interest during the summer program.
In the past, students have traveled to:
Field trips, excluding some meals, are included in the program fee.
