This course assumes that the student can recognize basic grammatical structures covered in Al-Kitaab fii Ta'allum al-'Arabiyya, part 1, third edition and is able to conduct a conversation in Arabic in situations like hotel reservations, buying a ticket at the train station, and inquiring about flights at the airport etc.
The course is designed to enable students to increase their communicative competence in Arabic. It focuses on the four basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing with more focus on Speaking and Reading. Students will read and discuss authentic Arabic materiel such as articles from daily newspapers/ magazines, and other texts related to the religion, politics, culture, and economics of North Africa and the Middle East. Students are also required to read or listen to the news media and discuss current political issues in a debate format, as well as to give oral presentations in Arabic.
Prerequisites:
Al-Kitaab fii Ta'allum al-'Arabiyya Book 1, Part 1 or equivalent.
Learning outcomes:
By the end of the course, each student will be able to:
express herself/himself in the target language using more complex grammatical structures and a wider range of Arabic expressions.
read and understand authentic material written in Arabic.
listen to and understand authentic spoken Arabic.
discuss current themes related to the Arab World.
give a short presentation related to the topics covered in the course.
Method of presentation:
The student is expected to do all homework outside of class. In-class activities will integrate the four basic communication skills of listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The teacher will facilitate and encourage individual, pair and group work in class.
Field study:
To enable students to experiment on the language they learn in class and at home, two field study trips are organized to two different locations such as museums, monuments, schools, etc. where students can listen in Arabic to explanations and interact with native speakers. The purpose is to immerse students in a linguistic environment to gauge their abilities and value their learning of Modern Standard Arabic.
Field study trip 1: Week 4, Ouelja handicratsmanship, Salé.
Field study trip 2: Week 10, Morocco Scholars League, Rabat

Therefore, the tasks and activities will help students reinforce, review and master the language elements and the content in each chapter.

Abderrahim Oulbouch holds a B.A. in English language and Literature, a certificate in Foreign language Teaching, a diploma in Teacher education and Supervision, Morey House College in Edingburgh, Scotland, a certificate in textbook design and evaluation from Marjons College in Plymouth, England. Has been teaching English and Arabic for over 20 years, has contributed in translating documents from Arabic into English for the General Inspection in the ministry of Education Morocco. Presently, a teacher of Modern Standard Arabic, Language courses coordinator and Moodle trainer at IES Abroad Rabat centre.
