Description: 

Study Of French Sounds And Intonation, Accompanied By Transcriptions Using The International Phonetic Alphabet And Orthophonic Drills. The Aim Of This Course Is To Help Advanced-Level Students&Rsquo; Improve Their French Pronunciation.

Prerequisites: 

Strong Knowledge of French grammar

Method of presentation: 

Description Of The Phonetic System And Its Rules Followed By Pronunciation Exercises And Poetry And Prose Readings Selected To Develop Students&Rsquo; Sensitivity To The Rhythm And Melody Of The French Language.

The Course Is Divided Into Three Sections:

  • Listening And Distinction
  • Intonation And Articulation Training
  • Typology Of Phonographic Codes And Rules Relating To The Rhythmic-Melodic Effects Of The Language
Required work and form of assessment: 

Phonetic transcriptions, creation of a personal phonetic record according to things learned in class. In addition:

  • Quizzes:25%
  • Mid-term exam: 25%
  • Oral and Written Final Exam: 25%
  • Lab work: 25%
content: 

Description And Analysis Of French Vowel And Consonant System; In-Depth Study Of Pronunciation Rules, Including Open And Closed Vowels, Semi-Vowels, Liaisons, The Silent, Consonant Clusters, Nasals, Fricatives, Etc. The Emphasis Is On Problematic Sounds And Pronunciation Difficulties Of Students In The Class.
