Description: 

Examination and analysis of the effects of France's political and cultural history on the evolution of Paris; the social life and customs in Paris; the development of city planning and architectural styles in Paris through the ages. Although designed as a full-year course (H351 & 352), it may be taken in either the fall or spring semester only.

6. Le Grand Louvre. Medieval Louvre: Fortress of Phillipe Auguste, Salles d'Objets de Famille. Walk through gallery of French paintings. 2.5hrs.

Required work and form of assessment: 

Term paper, mid-term and final exams. The term paper (or “mémoire”) involves research on a particular historical period or area of Paris, with an emphasis on practical application of knowledge acquired in the course. In addition, students write short summaries of each period studied throughout the semester. Regular attendance and field trips are mandatory.
