The aim of the course is to improve students’ speaking and writing skills in Spanish through grammar study, oral activities and written work. Enrichment of vocabulary and to acquire the basic stylistic skills.
Prerequisites:
A written and oral placement exam.
Method of presentation:
1. Presentation of Spanish grammar: rules and structures.
2. Practical, written exercises to complement the theoretical explanations.
3. Weekly compositions. These are corrected, then returned to the student to indicate which aspects need more attention. This system allows the professor and students to track their progress and to verify the assimilation of the theoretical explanations.
4. Grammar and vocabulary exercises and games. Students improve their vocabulary in a relaxed atmosphere.
5. Phonetic exercises to improve students’ pronunciation.
Required work and form of assessment:
Final grade based on homework assignments (30%), midterm exam (30%), final exam (40%). Attendance and class participation will also be taken into consideration.

3. Personal pronouns - theoretical explanations.
4. Verbs: tenses, moods, conjugations, with emphasis on the subjunctive mood. Theoretical explanations and practical exercises.
5. The indicative mood: Present, Past, Future, and Conditional tenses.
6. The nonpersonal forms: Imperative.
7. Gender and Articles.
8. Number and agreement.
9. Formation of words in Spanish.
10. General review.
