Description: 

The Dutch Language and Culture course caters to beginners with no previous knowledge of the Dutch language. This course also focuses on Dutch culture. The communicative approach to language learning
used in the course allows ample opportunity for the learners to practice what they have learned.

Learning outcomes: 

By the end of the course, students are able to:
use a basic vocabulary of Dutch
understand simple spoken and written Dutch
make themselves understood in elementary spoken and written Dutch use their knowledge on Dutch culture

Method of presentation: 

Classroom activities: listening to audio fragments; watching video fragments; preparatory exercises for communicative tasks; communicative exercises.
Language lab activities: vocabulary exercises; listening en writing exercises

English during the first two weeks, then Dutch

Required work and form of assessment: 

Vocabulary tests, writing exercises and active participation in class (20%);
Computer exercises; exercises in the language lab and active participation in field trips (20%) Final exam (60 %)

Lesson 2 Chapter 1: Who are you?
Culture:  weather - seasons in the Netherlands
task 2: asking and giving an address

Week 2
Lesson 3 Chapter 1: Who are you?
Culture: Dutch public holidays
