In light of last night’s announcement that U.S. special forces have killed Osama Bin Laden in a raid on his home in Pakistan, there may be anti-American protests and demonstrations in some international locations. This development also could potentially trigger terrorist acts against U.S. or allied targets around the world.

The economy continues to take a toll on higher education, increasing the numbers of students applying for study abroad financial aid over the past several years.

Joseph Sevigny, IES Abroad's Associate Vice President of Enrollment Management, says, "We decided to meet that need with a significant increase in our scholarship awards."

IES Abroad will participate in a wide array of events and activities at this year’s Forum on Education Abroad Conference in Boston. The following provides an update and an overview of IES Abroad activities.

In an effort to provide attendees with as much opportunity as possible to participate in Forum activities and sessions, IES Abroad has cancelled the series of Learning Opportunities originally scheduled for Thursday and Friday in the 4th Floor Lexington Room of the Boston Park Plaza Hotel.

Award-winning author Juan Gabriel Vasquez recently engaged in a session of questions and answers with journalist Justin Webster and then with IES Abroad students.

In his conversation he spoke about the authors that have had an impact on him as a writer, such as Joseph Conrad and Philip Roth, as well as the authors of the Latin American literary boom.

Update as of March 18, 2:00 pm

As noted below, we had entered into discussions with Nanzan University regarding offering academic credit for IES Abroad students.  We have learned overnight that Nanzan University will not be able to award full credit nor will they issue a refund to IES Abroad for the expenses related to the remainder of the term.

Update as of February 28, 2011 - 11:00 am

On February 24, 2011, the University of Canterbury announced that, for multiple reasons including campus infrastructure and health and safety concerns, it appeared unlikely that it would re-open any earlier than March 14 and possibly even later.

On the same day, based on this information and with the health and safety of our students as our highest priority, IES Abroad suspended its program in Christchurch and began preparations to move all students to the IES Abroad Auckland program.
