At our 2012 Annual Conference, IES Abroad presented our education leadership awards to three top professionals in the study abroad field. These prestigious awards are given to educators who have been instrumental in furthering the field of study abroad.
IES Abroad is proud to announce the winner of this year’s Instructor of the Year award: Stephen McMahon of our Dublin Center.
Stephen currently teaches two courses for IES Abroad Dublin: "The Shadows That We Cast: Writing the Irish Short Story" and "Irish Literature in the Last 100 Years: Identity, Selfhood, and the State".
In the summer of 2002, The Institute for the International Education of Students (IES) conducted the largest known survey of study abroad alumni. Of the 14,800 surveys received by alumni, more than 3,400 were returned-- a strong response rate of 23 percent. Alumni from all IES programs (years 1950-1999) responded to questions about their academic, personal, intercultural and professional development as a result of studying abroad.
We are happy to announce John Hudson as the new Center Director for our Buenos Aires Center. Born and raised in Argentina, John has extensive experience living and learning abroad himself. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from Purdue University, and he earned a Master’s Degree in Business Administration at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business.
We are pleased to announce an agreement this week with 11 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), represented by the IERC Education Foundation, to develop custom study abroad programs that will enroll students beginning Summer 2014.

Dr. Alvarez comes to us from SIT Study Abroad where he most recently worked as Academic Dean for Latin American and European Studies, providing strategic direction and academic leadership for 30 year-round and summer programs in Latin America and Europe.
