As a result of IES Abroad’s Diversity Initiative, a record-setting number of underrepresented students attended IES Abroad programs during the current academic year, comprising roughly 19% of IES Abroad's total student body.

Students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups attending IES Abroad study abroad programs grew by 9.4% for the Fall 2009 term and 13.5% for the Spring 2010 term.

Round 3 voting in IES Abroad's Study Abroad Mania closed last night in a nail-biting finish that advanced 4 study abroad destinations to the Fab Four! More than 37,207 votes have been cast since Study Abroad Mania began and Round 4 voting is now open.

On Tuesday, after a 7.2 aftershock near Santiago, our IES Abroad Santiago staff conducted a visual inspection of our academic center and believes no damage was sustained.

During the Santiago orientation program this week, staff provided information on earthquake preparedness and safety to all students. We will continue to educate and remind students of what they should do in the event of an aftershock. The health and safety of our students remains preeminent.

As you have probably seen on the news, an 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile this morning. The epicenter of the earthquake was Concepcion, Chile (approximately 200 miles away from Santiago).

Upon news of the earthquake, IES Abroad's Crisis Management Team was activated.

Buenos Aires, Argentina
While the earthquake was a considerable distance from Buenos Aires, there are reports that the earthquake could be felt in parts of Argentina, especially near the Chilean border.
