We're pleased to announce the winners of the most recent IES Photo Contest.

Taking 1st place in the Student Experience category is Rebecca Glanz for her photo, Sunset in the Sahara. Rebecca participated in the IES Abroad Rabat Program in the Fall of 2010 and attends Tulane University.

We are thrilled to announce that of the more than 200 applications we received, 31 students have been selected to blog this spring at blogs.iesabroad.org. Representing IES Abroad programs around the world, these students will share their thoughts before departure, their experiences during their programs, and their reflections once they return home.

In support of our goal to help as many students as possible study abroad, we recently offered 990 awards to our spring students, for a total of $1,422,550. This brings the total amount of scholarship and aid money awarded by IES Abroad during the 2010-11 academic year to a record-breaking $2,331,136, a 14% increase over last year’s award total.

IES Abroad is happy to announce that Fall 2010 student Christopher LaRosa has been chosen as a winner of the Contemporary Americana Festival in the category vocal music. He received this award for his song cycle "Spring Giddiness." 

The Festival, which is sponsored by the Boston Metro Opera, promotes contemporary composition in the categories opera, vocal, and choral works. It attracts submissions from around the country.

We are very excited to share with you IES Abroad's video in support of the It Gets Better Project. This project was started in response to recent suicides and stories about the bullying of LGBT youth, to show them there is hope.

Offering high-quality, competitively-priced apparel and travel items for students, adults, and kids, all store profits will go toward IES Abroad’s financial aid and scholarships for U.S. college and university students studying abroad on our programs. 

Apparel items offered include t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, jackets, and kids gear; travel items include luggage, bags, water bottles, and travel guides.

It's International Education Week!

The Department of State and the Department of Education are celebrating International Education Week--and they shared a short video on international education from Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In the video Clinton states that "Exchanges promote mutual understanding and bring people of different nations together... to share ideas and compare values. They also nurture leadership skills that prepare students for the challenges of the 21st century."

IES Abroad hosted an all class alumni reception at the Hotel Vitale in San Francisco on November 4th.  Over 75 alumni from the greater San Francisco area attended ranging from alums who attended IES Vienna ’60 to more recent alums who attended IES Barcelona ’06.  Wine was provided for the reception by Joe Donelan, Vienna ’71, who owns and operates a boutique winery in Sonoma County.    Click on the Alumni events tab to learn more about upcoming all class alumni receptions around the US.

At its 2010 Annual Conference and 60th Anniversary Celebration, IES Abroad presented three leadership awards to study abroad professionals and recognized 12 original members of its academic consortium.
