Amsterdam Summer - Society, Culture & Gender in Amsterdam

Amsterdam, a city long associated with notions of tolerance and openness, is the perfect backdrop against which to study Art History, Literature, and Sociology through the lens of Gender Studies. We invite you to explore Amsterdam's history and present, and to consider how these notions are—or are not—changing.

Amsterdam is your classroom, with course-related excursions to world-class museums and notable Amsterdam sites playing a major role in each course. This program also includes a course-related excursion to Berlin, to further investigate your topics of study.

Arles Summer

The IES Abroad Barcelona Language & Area Studies Summer Program is designed for students who want to study abroad in Spain and experience contemporary Spanish culture from the Catalonian perspective in a challenging academic environment. Language courses develop your written and oral proficiency in Castilian Spanish and area studies courses provide an excellent opportunity to learn about modern Spain in the larger context of the European Union. This English-taught program explores topics in Urban Studies, Architecture, and Environmental Studies in Berlin, a city that has both rebuilt and redesigned itself over the past century.

Course-related excursions are integrated to provide a first-hand look at Berlin’s architectural innovations, methods for integrating sustainable design, and various historical and political movements. Excursions to other cities in Germany round out the program, and allow you to explore the culture and architecture of Germany in a comparative context.
