The charming Provençal town of Arles, with a 2,000-year-old Roman arena at its center, is famous for its beautiful architecture and its association with Van Gogh, Gauguin, Cézanne, and Picasso. Many dance, music, photography, theater, and folklore festivals take place in and around the city throughout the summer, making it an ideal location for summer study in France.
The city of Arles is located in the heart of Provence, a picturesque region in southern France best known for its diverse landscapes, fields of lavender and olive trees and distinct cuisine. With a population of approximately 52,000 inhabitants, Arles is a small, yet vibrant and popular city. Its rich artistic history dates from the Romans to the present day and boasts former artists such as Picasso and Van Gogh, who spent many years painting in the area. During the summer months, students will be able to take advantage of the many festivals in Arles and the surrounding region, including the photography festival, the music festival “les Suds”, and the theater festival in Avignon.
