The Stone Forest [1]

One of the most magnificent attractions to see while visiting Kunming is the Stone Forest located just three hours outside of the city by car. Referred to since the Ming Dynasty as the “First Wonder of the World,” this forest of limestone formations and greenery is the result of erosion beginning in the Paleozoic era 270 million years ago.

The Golden Temple [2]

Constructed during the time of the Ming dynasty, this Taoist temple is the largest copper Temple in China. Dedicated to the Taoist hero-god Zishi, the Golden Temple has suffered damages due to wars over the years and has undergone major restorations to appear the brilliant golden color it is today.

Hot Springs at Anning [3]

Bathing in these hot springs has been a favored pastime for the last 2000 years since the Han Dynasty. These odorless, mineral rich springs average between 105-115 degrees Fahrenheit and are surrounded by peaceful forests providing an ideal setting for relaxation. The springs are located about 21 miles southwest of Kunming, not far from well-known Buddhist temples, such as the Fahu and Caoxi Temples.

Yuantong Temple [5]

This Buddhist temple is the most in the Yunnan province as it is the largest of its kind. Built during the Tang Dynasty, the temple has been reconstructed over the years and exemplifies many of the architectural qualities of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Today the temple serves also as the base for the Yunnan Provincial and Kunming Buddhism Commissions.
